Baxter
Baxter turned 14 March 20th of this year. He has been a bright light in our lives for many years and it is with a heavy heart (how else does one describe the strife and agony in these decisions? ) we have made the decision to put Baxter to rest. Baxter was diagnosed a couple years back with Cushings and we are certain this has a bit to do with his decline.
We have him scheduled to start his next chapter on October 6th.
I am sure Baxter has brought a good amount of joy to your lives too. We will miss his enthusiasm and gusto that he carried with him. His ‘bunny hops’, truffle pigging around the house and I think his mom or dad might have been a goat. He certainly had his own personality and you were going to hear about it; especially if there was any sort of teasing related to fighting. Just in case you thought it was okay to have fun, Baxter will make sure to correct you. (Get off his lawn!) I am pretty sure he was an old man at heart. He earned his nick name “The Warden”. You weren’t allowed to have TOO much fun or you would hear about it.
Baxter was always up for an adventure. I wish I had a video of him chasing a deer out of the campsite! Some where in all these pictures and video’s you will see him being introduced to a Catfish.
Baxter had a lot of love. Sometimes he’d try to smother you with that love by laying on your face.(see pictures) A very spirited young man, he was my little boy for such a long time.
It is hard to see how far away from his younger self he is. I have been questioning if we are making the right decision, but as I go through all of these pictures and videos, I’m realizing that he has lost quite a bit of himself.
Baxter has had a pretty full life, making friends and seeing the world. Baxter was originally from Tennessee. He made his way into our lives in Wisconsin. After making friends with so many other family pets and camping, fishing, and general adventuring, we moved South. He was able to experience a whole new type of camping, new wildlife, hiking, making more friends and more siblings. He even got to visit the Grand Canyon!
This last leg of his journey landed him more northerly, but adventures for him have very much dwindled since his diagnosis with the Cushings. He still loves his food though. So he has been getting some good bits here and there.
We had adopted Baxter in 2013 from a couple in Green Bay. We have kept in touch over the years and they have even been updated with this. If there is one thing you can do for anyone who had to make that hard decision to re-home their beloved family member… Give them updates. Let them know that you are giving their baby a good home. Even if you have to re-home them yourselves… maybe they could take them back.
He is such a good boy! He will absolutely be missed!
